NMI government offices shut down; PSS, NMC classes suspended

GOVERNOR Ralph D.L.G. Torres said because of the anticipated threat of Tropical Storm Yutu, he has upgraded Saipan and Tinian to Typhoon Condition II, and Rota, Alamagan, Pagan, and Agrihan to Tropical Storm Condition II as of 11 a.m., Tuesday.

Effective 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, all government offices will be shut down, and non-critical government employees will be released.

The CNMI Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, through the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point, will maintain 24-hour operation, monitor the movement of Yutu and issue bulletins as they become available.

In a separate announcement, the Public School System said its students on Saipan, Tinian and Rota will be released from 11 a.m. to 12:30 noon, Tuesday. Among private schools, Mount Carmel School suspended its classes at 11 a.m. Northern Marianas College said its campuses on Saipan, and Tinian will be closed Tuesday effective 11:30 a.m. The NMC Rota campus will remain operational until further notice. NMC classes scheduled for Tuesday have been canceled. All NMC student activities and events (including the Silent Walk and Student Success series) scheduled for this week have been postponed.
