Fire guts Puerto Rico home

AN early morning fire damaged a semi-concrete residential home in Puerto Rico on Friday, Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services public information officer Derek Gersonde said.

“No persons were injured and no treatments were provided at the scene for medical complaints in relation to the fire,” he added.

Gersonde said at 1:49 a.m. on Nov. 16., DFEMS received a call from the Department of Public Safety regarding a possible structural fire behind the Twins Market in Puerto Rico.

At 1:51 a.m., he said Rescue-1 and Forestry-1 from the Susupe Fire Station, and Engine-2 and Medic-2 from the Garapan Fire Station responded. The first unit arrived on scene at 1:53 a.m., and the fire was reported controlled at 2:09 a.m., Gersonde said.

Preliminary scene investigation conducted by the Arson Investigation Unit found that the fire fully engulfed the house, and that the blaze originated from the western side of the structure.  “The cause of the fire is still pending, and investigation is ongoing,” Gersonde said.
