Joan Oliverio’s gift of beauty

A NATIVE of the Philippines and a long-time Saipan resident, Joan Oliverio offered her hair-stylist talents to the Saipan Church of Christ on Thanksgiving.

Many members of the church received a free haircut and were elated by Oliverio’s generosity. “Thanksgiving is a joy — there’s great food and great company, but being pampered by a beautician makes it a really happy occasion,” said one the church member.

Oliverio works at Trends Beauty Salon in San Jose. She provides haircare services to men and women, and can also style your eyebrows. She educates her clients about hair and scalp care, and tells them how to remove unwanted hair or even dress a wig.

“I believe in sharing one’s skills with the community especially during after a super typhoon,” she said. “Besides food, medicine, or money, we can also ‘donate’ our know-how. In my case, I provided beauty services to help make people feel happy, beautiful, and healthy.”

She added, “Health is wealth. Taking care of oneself is healthy.”
