DOL accepting applications for Disaster Unemployment Assistance

THE CNMI Department of Labor is accepting applications for the federally funded Disaster Unemployment Assistance, a program for individuals who are currently not employed, those whose working hours have been reduced, or those who have been laid off from work.

DOL Secretary Vicky Benavente said applicants may go to Springs Plaza  in Gualo Rai on Middle Road where some of the DOL staff are temporarily holding office.

DOL expects some 3,000 applicants from Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

The assistance is for U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, permanent residents or qualified aliens  affected by Typhoons Mangkhut or Yutu.

Benavente said an affected individual may receive $300. “It depends on how far we can stretch the funds. This assistance is very important because it will help provide for the family especially for those whose working hours have been reduced or those laid off from work,” she added.
