Joeten objects to IPI’s planned road closure

JOETEN Enterprises objects to the Imperial Pacific International’s plan to close off a portion of Beach Road on Friday and Saturday so it can remove a cross bar from one of the tower cranes used for the casino construction in Garapan.

Joeten is demanding that IPI postpone the proposed road closure until at least January 2019 to give Joeten time to prepare for “the sudden action” by IPI “which will undoubtedly negatively and substantially harm Joeten.”

Through the Law Office of Robert T. Torres, Joeten Enterprises filed complaints with the Department of Public Lands and the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality.

Joeten said the road closure will cut off all access to its shopping center for over 24 hours, which will subject the company to further significant economic loss.

Joeten alleged that IPI has issued a public notice about its “unilateral road closure, without obtaining consent or even consulting with its neighbors whose business and economic interests will be negatively and severely impacted.”

IPI clarified that the road closure is in three-hour blocks on Friday and Saturday, “but this still a significant negative impact as [Joeten’s] Hafa Adai Deli opens at 7 a.m. and the grocery store at 8 a.m.,” Joeten said.

In response, IPI issued an updated advisory on Thursday, stating that vehicles can still enter the Grandvrio Resort and/or Joeten parking lots on Friday and Saturday.

According to the IPI advisory, “The construction team of Imperial Palace plans to start the removal of the cross bar from tower crane  this Friday and Saturday morning.  In order to comply with safety regulations, closing a portion of Beach Road in Garapan is required during the removal project. The closed sections include south bound from Cha Cafe to Hard Rock Café and north bound from Hard Rock Café to Cha Cafe.

“This will be from 7  a.m. to 10 a.m. on December 7,  and 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on December 8, 2018.

“The road closure applies to through traffic on Beach Road from Cha Café to Hard Rock.  There will be traffic controlled access northbound on Beach Road in order for vehicles to enter the Grandvrio Hotel and/or Joeten parking lots.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause the public, however, the safety of everyone is our utmost priority. Thank you for understanding and support.”
