DFS donates toys for children at Kagman shelter

DFS Ltd.-T Galleria on Monday donated over 50 individually wrapped gifts to children staying at the Kagman Emergency Shelter Facility.

“We were more than happy to do it,” DFS president Marian Aldan-Pierce said.

There are 39 families, including 56 children,   staying at the Kagman shelter.

“All of our management people got together,” Aldan-Pierce said. “We got the names of the children, with their gender and age. We then bought gifts for them. We are their secret Santas,” she added. “Our employees are just very happy to  be a part of that.”

For years now, she said, DFS has been participating in the Toys for Tots program.

“We always give gifts to many organizations that come to us. We always get a lot of requests from teachers, various organizations for their Christmas parties.”

In a statement, Department of Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary Robert Hunter thanked DFS Ltd.-T-Galleria for donating toys for every child at the shelter. He said the company also donated two Christmas trees with decorations.

“We wanted to make sure that there was something for the kids and families at the KESF for Christmas, but there was not a lot of time between their transfer from [public] schools, the Aging Center, and the HOPE Center and Christmas to make this happen,” he said.

He said they sent letters to a number of businesses asking for help.

Hunter said Aldan-Pierce responded right away. “This was incredibly generous of them and we did not expect to see one business cover gifts for all of the children.  To say the least, we were overwhelmed, and we are very thankful to DFS Saipan Ltd. and Marian Aldan-Pierce for making this happen.  The families at the shelter were severely affected by Super Typhoon Yutu, and these donations will certainly brighten up the Christmas season for them.”
