CUC official: Saipan water service almost back to normal

COMMONWEALTH Utilities Corp. Executive Director Gary Camacho said Saipan is almost back to 24-hour water service since CUC started the typhoon recovery and reconstruction program in October.

Of 120 water wells, 97 are in operation and are powered by CUC while 23 others are powered by generators provided by CUC or the Federal Emergency Management Agency, he added.

The full restoration of normal water service depends on the availability and arrival of materials, he said.

But although water wells are online, water production varies and depends on water tank levels, Camacho said.

He acknowledged the crucial assistance extended by the Guam Waterworks Authority in the “quick recovery” of water distribution lines.

GWA provided 10 personnel, seven trucks and one transit van. “We really appreciate their assistance,” Camacho said.

CUC continues to urge community members to report water leaks in their areas by calling 664-4282 or 664-4CUC.
