Bill to protect casino from financial fraud now law

A BILL that aims to protect the casino from financial fraud or misuse of financial instruments was signed into law by then-acting Gov. Victor B. Hocog on Jan. 7, 2019.

Senate Bill 20-98 is now Public Law 20-85.

Introduced by former Senate President Arnold Palacios, who is now the lt. governor, the measure states that due to the very nature of the gaming industry, casinos can be exposed to a variety of different fraudulent crimes, counterfeit money, fake credit cards, phony checks and applications for credit using stolen identification.

It added that the possibility of financial fraud increasing in the Commonwealth is tenfold now that all senatorial districts have legalized casino gaming.

The new law aims to discourage fraudulent activities at casinos within the Commonwealth especially on Saipan.
