DPS investigates armed robbery

THE Department of Public Safety is investigating an armed robbery on Middle Road Tuesday morning.

The victim, a Korean man, was robbed at knifepoint after withdrawing cash  from the Bank of Hawaii-Gualo Rai branch.

As of press time, police had not identified a suspect.

DPS Commissioner Robert Guerrero told Variety that detectives were “canvassing the area and obtaining [closed-circuit TV] footage from the adjacent establishments.”

Guerrero said the victim is able to recognize the face of the suspect who has “red stained teeth.”

It was reported that the victim had withdrawn an undetermined amount of cash from the bank and then proceeded to the nearby Commonwealth Casino Commission office for a meeting.

As he stepped out of the CCC office after the meeting, an individual tapped him on the shoulder and told him to give up his bag that contained money.

He refused but the suspect swung a knife at him, injuring the victim’s left arm which caused him to drop the bag. The suspect then grabbed the money out of the bag and ran.
