He said since 2009, he has been voluntarily cleaning up the cemetery, adding that every week after his work as a field personnel of the Parks and Recreation Division, he will head to the cemetery to pick up the trash there.

Now, during weekends, Aguon said he usually starts his volunteer work at the cemetery at 6 a.m.

Over the past two Sundays, he said he has been collecting five to 10 bags of trash, mostly household refuse.

“Visitors at the cemetery should not leave their trash — they should dispose it properly,” he added.

Aguon said he wants to assist the Friends of the Cemetery who prepare the area for the Mass held every first day of the month.

He said there are more volunteers at Sugar Dock beach. “I am happy with that — more people are helping to keep our environment clean.”

Aguon said he is also very thankful to DPA Car Mart in San Antonio for donating a pick-truck in July last year, saying “the vehicle has really served its purpose which is to help me in my community service.”
