The Friends of the Arts sponsored a special two-night concert for Rudnytsky in the Hyatt Ballroom this year. The first concert was held Saturday evening; the second is set for March 23.

On Saturday, Rundnytsky played tunes by Chopin, Beethoven, Bach, Debussy, Schumann and Albeniz.

On March 23, he will play music by Brahms, Mozart, De Falla and Liszt, among other composers.

The Marianas High School’s Glee Club, Rhythm ‘N Harmony, performed an intermission number at the concert on Saturday which was open to the public.

According to FOA president Susan Fishman-Tudor, they decided to hold a free concert “because we wanted to give back to the community following the devastation of Typhoon Yutu.”

The FOA, she said, stages four or five productions every year, and these include Rudnytsky’s annual concert.

“We support Roman being here and we support his music. We don’t want to put a price on his [talent].”

For 10 years now and counting, Rudnytsky said he enjoys coming to Saipan and holding a concert. “I have always liked Saipan from the very first time I came here. I enjoy doing concerts and playing with the students.”

While on island, Rudnytsky said he also visits schools to discuss music with students.
