Indigenous Affairs Office to hold alternative medicine workshop for women

INDIGENOUS Affairs Office Resident Executive Roman Tudela Jr. is inviting all women to participate in a free medicinal workshop on March 27, Wednesday, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the IAO office, Building 1213 on Capital Hill.

Tudela said participants will have a chance to learn from traditional healers who will share their knowledge about plants and their healing properties.

“The event will focus on women, their health, common ailments and what natural medicines they may take,” Tudela said.

He said women take on many responsibilities and may forget to take care of their own health.

“This is their chance to take a second look at their health and learn how to remedy minor illnesses through the use of traditional medicine,” Tudela said.

He added that the Commonwealth Women Association earlier asked IAO to take part in the ongoing celebration of Women’s Month.

“Since we have been a strong advocate of traditional medicine, we found it appropriate to continue to promote it among women,” Tudela said.

He said this is the first time that IAO will hold an event specifically for women.

“We have a long tradition of using natural herbs to heal illnesses,” he said, adding that their goal in this event is to spur women’s interest in alternative medicine so they can pass on the tradition to their children.
