Weather observing equipment to be installed at Mount Carmel School

A WEATHER observing equipment will be installed and unveiled at Mount Carmel School on March 29, 2019 at 11 a.m., according to the National Weather Service-Guam Office.

Guam-based meteorologist Marcus Landon Aydlett, in an email, said the equipment will be donated to the school as part of a partnership between the Hong Kong Observatory, the NWS and MCS.

“This installation of the software and equipment is part of the Community Weather Station Project in Hong Kong, China, with the goal of raising public awareness of weather hazards and climate change through the implementation of community weather stations,” Aydlett said.

“Additionally, weather observations provided by this station will be available online, providing a new data point for weather observations for the National Weather Service.”

A team from NWS Guam will arrive on Saipan next week for a series of meetings and outreach events, Aydlett said.

While on Saipan, warning coordination meteorologist Chip Guard and meteorologist-in-charge Genevieve Miller will meet with CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management officials personnel on March 27 and participate in the monthly Hotel Association of the Northern Marianas Islands meeting on March 28

The NWS “provides weather, hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for the United States, its territories, adjacent waters and ocean areas, for the protection of life and property and the enhancement of the national economy.”

NWS data and products form a national information database and infrastructure which can be used by other governmental agencies, the private sector, the public, and the global community.
