Lawmaker paints mural, helps beautify Precinct 4

FRESHMAN Rep. Joel Camacho is conducting a cleanup and beautification program in Precinct 4, an area that tourists pass through when going to the historical and tourist destinations in the northern part of Saipan.

He said beautifying the precinct he represents in the House of Representatives is an ongoing effort on his part.

“I’ve done it before and I am honored to be a part of the process,” he added.

The beautification project includes painting a mural on sidewalk jersey walls.

Assisting the lawmaker were his staffers, parents and other relatives.

“I was inspired to undertake this project after a trip to Guam. I was amazed by all the artwork and murals painted by their local artists,” Camacho said. “This motivated me to make it a reality in Precinct 4. I want to give our community a sense of pride.”

Camacho said he has asked the Department of Public Works to identify four areas in Tanapag, Achugao and in San Roque across from Kensington for his artwork and mural project

Other interested artists and volunteers are welcome to participate, he said, adding that he is also looking forward to obtaining sponsorships from the hotels in the area.

Aside from the mural project, Camacho said they have also renovated the basketball courts in As Matuis, Tanapag and Capital Hill.

He said they will soon start rehabilitating sidewalks and cleaning guardrails to further beautify Precinct 4.

To maintain the cleanliness of the area, he and his father have likewise “adopted” the Tanapag Middle School playing field.
