Ladies’ Night at Joeten-Kiyu Public Library

IN celebration of CNMI Women’s Month, the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library on Friday hosted Ladies’ Night.

About 125 women and their family members participated in the event which included a beauty makeover session courtesy of 2018 Miss Marianas Celine Cabrera.

JKPL technical services librarian Beth Demapan said the event was meant to give women a break from their daily tasks.

“Most people know that a library is just a place for books but it can also be a place where they can relax, or provide a venue where community members can get together,” she said.

Demapan said they also wanted to empower women by providing them with additional skills.

Four artists with the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs-Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture shared their art skills with the participants.

Del Lieto taught them how to make mwar; Tanya Salas, flower making; Sylvia Daguitan, recycled paper basket making; and Jadine Hocog, bead jewelry making.

2018 Miss Marianas Celine Cabrera said she enjoyed Ladies Night. “I wish this is something that we celebrate all-year long. Women should be honored because they are the foundation of our families. I’m just glad that we’re able to recognize all women in the CNMI,” she added.

Demapan said JKPL is grateful to the sponsors and community partners which include the Office of the Governor-Women’s Affairs Office, the CNMI Women’s Association, Lady Diann Torres Foundation, DFS-T Galleria, Northern Marianas Humanities Council-CNMI Motheread/Fatheread Program, Healing Stone, Natural Nail Spa and Bobby Sanjay for donating his time in conducting a free Zumba class for women.
