Flower shop burglarized, again

ISLAND Touch by Philip, a floral arrangement shop located next to a Mobil gas station in Susupe, was burglarized Sunday evening. The shop was also burglarized in January.

Shop owner Philip Canuto told Variety that before he closed shop around 10 p.m. on Sunday, he went to a nearby store to buy some items. He left the shop with all the lights on and the shutter closed, but he did not lock the inner door because he would be back soon.

Canuto said when he came back, he found the lights at the shop all turned off. He said he knew right away that “something” had happened.

He said his laptop, which he used for his business transactions, and the shop cash register were no longer on his desk.

Canuto declined to state the total amount of cash taken from the shop. But he said an employee of a next-door establishment told him that a man wearing a white shirt and short pants was walking back and forth outside the flower shop shortly before Canuto left for the nearby store.

Canuto said he called 911 and the Department of Public Safety responded quickly.

On Monday morning, Canuto said he found the change tray of his shop’s cash register on the ground outside his flower shop. It was empty except for pennies.

Canuto said he was in the process of upgrading his shop’s surveillance camera when the latest burglary occurred.
