$500K water bill paid in full for Guam pool

HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — An outstanding water bill with the Guam Waterworks Authority for the Hagåtna swimming pool has been paid in full, according to Department of Parks and Recreation Director Richard Ybanez.

That was one of the challenges in getting the Hagåtna pool filled and reopened to the public. However, no date has been specified for reopening and the earlier estimate of needing two weeks to address hurdles passed.

An inspection was held with GWA on Friday, and Ybanez said the pool will open “real soon.”

“Everything is fixed,” Ybanez said. The staff at DPR has made the necessary repairs and installed a float valve, he added.

“With the help of GWA, we were able to fulfill the requirements to comply,” Ybanez said.

The $500,000 water bill accrued due to a leak in the structure at the facility, Ybanez said. The department recently received notice that the Bureau of Budget and Management Research paid the bill.

Ybanez said he is grateful to BBMR, GWA and the staff at DPR for their work in assuring the pool could reopen.

The pool was closed to the public in November 2018.

The Dededo pool, which was closed for more than one year, reopened earlier this month.
