“It should be done this week and the road will be ready for Good Friday,” he added.

His field operations director Joann Aquino said they are making sure that various community organizations and non-profit groups can start setting up their canopies along the road.

She said the mayor’s office will also distribute refreshments and fruits to the devotees.

The mayor’s office thanked the donors: Joeten Enterprises, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Sen. Vinnie Sablan, Rep. Joseph Flores, National Office Supply, Kanoa Resort, The Water Company, and McDonald’s Saipan.

Apatang said they are still accepting donations of fruits, water and ice. “We appreciate everyone’s contributions,” he added.

Community service

The United Filipino Organization is encouraging affiliate groups to continue supporting their annual community service on Good Friday at Mount Tapochao.

“There’s a lot of preparation involved,” UFO president Gerry De Guzman said, adding that they will start setting up their canopy and a portable toilet by Thursday afternoon.

“We will serve refreshments, including breakfast: rice porridge, boiled eggs, sandwiches and coffee,” he added.

He said UFO will continue to partner with its regular sponsors and donors for this annual event, adding that their affiliate groups will help prepare and distribute food and drinks to the devotees.

UFO’s active affiliate groups include Alternatibong Kagalingan na Angkop sa Pamayanang Pinoy or AKAP Pinoy, Bayani Association, Marianas Association of Filipino Engineers & Architects, Marianas DX Radio Group, Marianas Institute of Filipino CPAs & Accountants, Northern Marianas Bartenders Association, Saipan Building & Fixing Computer Users Group, Santo Niño Group, and Tau Gama Phi/Triskelion.
