AG’s office: Hasugulham and Teregeyo burglarized five more business establishments

STEVEN Hasugulgam, 22, and Duane Irwin Teregeyo, 18, who were arrested in connection with the burglary and theft at True Value Hardware on Beach Road and I Love Saipan Pop Up Store on Middle Road are now facing additional charges for the burglary at five other business establishments.

The Office of the Attorney General said Hasugulgam broke into Bank of Saipan, Surf Club and the Shell gas station in Susupe.

Hasugulgam and Teregeyo, conspired to break into Surf Club, Blue Sky Market, and Pena House Boutique, the AG’s office stated.

At the status conference hearing on Monday before Superior Court Presiding Judge Roberto Naraja, Hasugulham was represented by court-appointed attorney Oliver M. Manglona while Teregeyo was represented by court-appointed attorney Kimberly King-Hinds.

Acting chief prosecutor Heather Barcinas represented the government which is charging Hasugulham with additional six counts of burglary, six counts of theft, four counts of conspiracy and three counts of criminal mischief.

Teregeyo’s additional charges are three counts of burglary, three counts of theft, three counts of conspiracy, and one count of criminal mischief.

The two defendants pleaded not guilty to the new charges. They also waived the reading of the charges.

Last week, the defense lawyers requested that an independent investigator be appointed to look into how the two defendants were arrested in Dec. 2018.

Hasugulham, in a statement to the police, had admitted that they were responsible for burglarizing True Value Hardware and I Love Saipan Pop-up Store.

He also told police that burglarizing both stores were Teregeyo’s idea.

The government initially charged each defendant with two counts of conspiracy to commit burglary and theft, two counts of burglary, two counts of theft, and two counts criminal mischief for the burglary and theft at True Value Hardware and I Love Saipan Pop Up Store.
