‘America’s Got Talent’ winner entertains Saipan audience

“AMERICA’S Got Talent” Season 8 winner Kenichi Ebina introduced “interactive dancing” to Saipan when he performed at the 38th Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival on Saturday.

In an interactive dance, a performer is connected to the action on the screen and he controls it with his dance moves.

The Marianas Visitors Authority and the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands or HANMI brought foreign performers, including Ebina, to the island for this year’s Flame Tree Arts Festival.

The other guest performers were Yixin Wang, an R&B singer from China and winner of the QQ Singer competition; the all-boy band Ulala Session, winner of South Korea’s Super Star K Season 3; and South Korean singer Huh Gak, winner of Super Star K Season 2.

On stage, Ebina showcased his astonishing moves which included his head-dropping, Matrix-style martial arts dance that he performed when he auditioned for “America’s Got Talent” in 2013.

A big fan of Michael Jackson, Ebina dedicated his performance to the 10th death anniversary of the “King of Pop.” He moonwalked and performed Michael Jackson’s “anti-gravity” lean trick in the “Smooth Criminal” video.

The audience, especially the children, loved Ebina.

“I know that my dance skills are not that good,” he said. “If I joined a dance competition, I would never win. But I know how to entertain. ‘America’s Got Talent’ is more about entertainment and it gave me a chance.”

His advice for those who dream big: “Create something special or something new…. Do something different.”
