Fire razes abandoned house in San Jose

FIRE destroyed an abandoned house in San Jose on Saturday morning, but no one was injured, the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services said.

It added that DFEMS personnel responded to the structure fire behind Dolphin Wholesale Store after receiving a call from a man at 10:03 a.m.

DFEMS public information officer Derek Gersonde said at 10:05 a.m., Engine-2 from the Garapan Fire Station, Rescue-1, Forestry-1 and Medic-1 from the Susupe Fire Station responded to the scene.

At 10:10 a.m. Rescue-1 and Medic-1 were already at the scene, with Engine-2 and Forestry-1 arriving at 10:12 a.m.

With the wooden structure fully engulfed, firefighters suppressed the fire and prevent it from traveling or damaging adjacent homes.

The fire was controlled at 10:24 a.m., Gersonde said, adding that its cause was still undetermined.

In other news

On Thursday, DFEMS reported that it had responded to seven grass fires on Saipan.

The areas and time of the responses were: 9:54 a.m., Paupau Beach; 10:56 a.m., As Gonno; 11:10 a.m., Tank Beach in Kagman; 11:35 a.m., behind Kagman market; 1:27 p.m., As Terlaje; 1:30 p.m., Tanapag; and 3:40 p.m., As Gonno.

In Tanapag, Gersonde said the fire moved up toward Wireless Ridge where the DFEMS wildland strike team responded.
