Fiesta Resort fixes access road

THE access road between Fiesta Resort & Spa and Hyatt Regency Saipan in Garapan has finally been fixed.

The perennially flooded road, which had become an eyesore in the tourist district, is now paved, thanks to Fiesta Resort.

“It is under our responsibility to make sure that it is passable and in good shape for public access to the beach,” Fiesta Resort general manager Wendi Herring said.

She said they just learned that the area is included in their lease agreement with the Department of Public Lands.

“It’s an expensive project but Fiesta Resort management was able to get some competitive quotes when they also reconfigured the hotel’s parking lot which is adjacent to the access road,” she added.

“We realized how important it was after speaking with DPL and other people in the community,” Herring said. “So, we are grateful to our corporate office, Tan Holdings, for approving the investment so that people can now access the road very easily.”

She said they have also addressed the problem with the drainage in the area.

The hotel management will maintain the good condition of the access road and will remove the remaining typhoon debris from the beach area, she added.

Naidol Islam, one of the marine sports operators, said they appreciate the gesture of Fiesta Resort’s management.

Islam also thanked Gov. Ralph DLG Torres, the Marianas Visitors Authority and the Department of Public Works for helping resolve the problem.

The repaired access road will benefit not only their clients but the general public as well, he said.

“We will no longer receive complaints from our clients about the poor condition of the road,” said Amir Hossain, another marine sports operator.

In a separate interview, Governor Torres said he appreciates Fiesta Resort and Tan Holdings’ commitment to the community.

“They are among the companies that continue to work for the people,” he said, adding that Tan Holdings was also at the forefront of the recovery efforts after Typhoon Yutu devastated Saipan and Tinian.

“Thank you again, Tan Holdings, for the partnership they provide to the CNMI,” the governor added.
