The group, the mayor said, has been visiting Saipan every year.

“The mayor’s office has always assured them of any assistance they may need while on Saipan to accomplish their mission,” Apatang said, adding that the group works in coordination with the CNMI Historic Preservation Office.

Kazuhiko Ono, the new Japanese consul to Saipan, informed the mayor about the group’s activities this year.

Apatang said he will attend a cremation ceremony that will be conducted by the group at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 20, at Banaderu in Marpi.
