Joseph Ada, CGC program coordinator, said the event aimed to raise awareness about the prevention programs available in the community.

He said the celebration was part of the annual National Prevention Week, which ran from May 12 to 18. “It was a one-week observance that is dedicated to increasing the public’s awareness about mental and/or substance use disorders,” Ada said.

Throughout the week, Ada said they conducted various activities, including an information campaign regarding underage drinking in elementary, middle and high schools on Saipan, Tinian and Rota.

Ada said educating children at an early age about this issue will help them make better decisions when they face a situation involving substance abuse.

At the Family Fun Fest on Saturday, Ada said community partners and other health agencies conducted educational and physical activities for the families. There were also food vendors, a bouncy castle, games and entertainment for the children.
