Senate panel looks into CPA expansion plan

THE Senate Committee on Public Utilities Transportation and Communications last week discussed the Commonwealth Ports Authority’s master plan which includes airport and seaport expansion projects.

Chaired by Sen. Vinnie Sablan, the committee requested CPA for an update on the master plan.

Sablan said CPA Executive Director Christopher Tenorio told the senators that the airport master plan is still in progress but is expected be completed in October.

The plan will include the needed repairs following Typhoon Mangkhut and Super Typhoon Yutu, expansion and other improvement projects.

“The committee hopes that the plans for expansion will accommodate additional air services for both international and inter-island travels,” Sablan said in an interview.

He added that representatives of a U.S.-based company “is currently on island to assess the possibility of additional inter-island services.”

“It is our hope that CPA’s new airline incentive program can entice more air service competition,” Sablan said.

The committee vice chairman is Sen. Sixto Igisomar and its members are Sens. Justo S. Quitugua and Francisco Q. Cruz.
