4 arrested in Garapan robbery

POLICE have arrested four men accused of robbing two tourists in Garapan late night on May 8.

Arrested were Justin Cangco, 20, Bradley Manalo 21, Grant R. Iderbei, 18, and Franklin Aldan, 20.

Koban units responded to the incident on May 8, 2019 at 11:20 p.m.

The victims, a tourist couple, told police they were heading back to their hotel when an old model silver 4-door sedan pulled alongside them.

The woman said a man in white shirt wearing a mask reached out and grabbed her black shoulder bag containing an iPhone7, a wristwatch, a wi-fi router and two passports, among others.

Another woman who witnessed the incident told police that the silver 4-door sedan had four occupants, and that the driver had brown complexion. She said a passenger in a white t-shirt and wearing a mask grabbed the woman’s shoulder bag.

A police officer later spotted the vehicle heading eastbound. It pulled over, and with the driver’s consent, the officer searched the vehicle.

Manalo was identified as the driver and Cangco was the passenger.

Police search of the vehicle yielded an iPhone7 and a wristwatch box but without the watch.

The witness positively identified Manalo as the driver of the vehicle.

Cango told police that after the incident, he and Manalo dropped Aldan in Kagman and Iderbei in Tanapag.

Aldan was arrested in Kagman, and told police that Iderbei took the stolen items. Police later recovered some of the stolen items — a wristwatch and a powerbank — at Iderbei’s house in Tanapag. Iderbei confessed to taking the items, police said.

The recovered items were returned to the victims.

On Friday, Superior Court Judge Kenneth L. Govendo imposed a $50,000 cash bail on Iderbei and Aldan. Both defendants were remanded to the Department of Corrections.

The court scheduled a preliminary hearing for May 16 at 1:30 am, but Aldan and Iderbei waived the preliminary hearing.

Their arraignment was set for May 20 at 9 a.m. before Presiding Judge Robert Naraja.

The court appointed attorney Stephen Nutting to represent Iderbei while Vince Seman was appointed to represent Aldan. Assistant Attorney General Charles Lee represented the government.

There was no court information available regarding Manalo and Cangco.
