TINIAN Police Sgt. Wally Villagomez, a traffic investigator, has been nominated by the Torres-Palacios administration to be the new Department of Corrections commissioner.

The appointment, which requires the Senate’s consent, was transmitted to the Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Governmental Investigations on Friday, May 17, 2019.

Villagomez will serve in an acting capacity pending confirmation.

“We are confident in your leadership to ensure efficient continuity of the department’s functions and mandates as we work toward integrating our administration’s goals and objectives,” Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios said in a letter to Villagomez.

Villagomez is required to file a statement of financial interest with the Office of the Pubic Auditor, and to submit his résumé, police clearance and drug test result.

If confirmed, Villagomez would succeed Vincent Attao, whose re-appointment was withdrawn by the governor in April.
