Fire breaks out at massage parlor

THE fire department on Wednesday responded to a structure fire that damaged Lohas Massage Parlor which is on the second floor of a commercial building in Susupe. There were no injuries.

According to some witnesses, the fire started near the door of the massage parlor. They believe that an electrical appliance was the cause of the fire.

Two doors down is the office of local attorney Samuel Mok who said he was shocked when he learned that a neighboring establishment was on fire.

Mok said he was at his desk with a client when her secretary burst in and told him that there was fire in the adjacent establishment.

“I went to the front door, poked my head out of the door, and sure enough saw smoke and flames shooting out of the massage parlor.”

Mok said he, his client and staff evacuated the office immediately.

He said he did not see anyone running from the massage parlor during the fire. “My understanding was that the business was closed at that time of the fire, and that they usually open at a later time.”

Fire department spokesman Derek Gersonde said they received a call about the fire incident at 11:50 a.m.

Responding units arrived on the scene at 11:53 a.m., and the fire was under control at 12:26 p.m., he added.

The fire “was contained at the massage parlor and it did not spread to the adjacent business establishments,” he said.

Responding firefighters said the massage parlor was closed and no one was inside at the time of the fire.

“We don’t have any injuries and the cause of fire is still under investigation,” Gersonde said.
