Memorial Day at American Memorial Park

(Press Release) — In observance of Memorial Day, American Memorial Park will honor all those who died serving in America’s armed forces.

In remembrance of the American servicemen who lost their lives during the World War II Marianas Campaign, park staff invites the community to join us in lighting hundreds of luminaria along the walkway to the Court of Honor. The luminaria will be lit May 26, 2019 and remain lit through Memorial Day.

The community is invited to:

  • • May 26 at 3:30 p.m. Volunteer to help place the LED candles in the luminaria leading up to the Court of Honor.
  • • May 26-27. Take time to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country. Visit the Court of Honor, which is inscribed with the names of 5,204 servicemen killed or missing in action during WWII. At sunset, pay tribute to our fallen in the glow of over 500 luminarias. Each luminaria represents 10 names inscribed on the Court of Honor. Wreaths made by participating local schools will also be on display to honor all servicemen and women who have lost their lives while serving our country.

During Memorial Day weekend and throughout the year, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., everyone is welcome to the Visitor Center to watch the park film and tour the exhibit. For more information contact Ranger Brooke Nevitt at 234-7207 ext. 2020 or email brooke_nevitt@nps.gov
