2 power generators arrive on Rota

THE two power generators that Commonwealth Utilities Corp. purchased to address the power crisis on Rota have already arrived on the island.

A used 2-megawatt Cummins generator was delivered by International Bridge & Construction Marianas Inc. or IBCM and arrived on Rota Thursday, June 6, while a new 2-megawatt Caterpillar arrived on Saturday, June 8.

But both generators have yet to be installed at the Rota power plant, Variety was told.

The generator acquired from IBCM for $690,000 was supposed to arrive on Rota in the second week of May but the shipment was delayed.

In an interview, CUC Executive Director Gary Camacho on Tuesday said there are no issues, “at this point,” with the newly delivered generators which will be installed soon, he added.

He said CUC’s six-month contract with Rota Resort & Country Club for the purchase of an alternative power supply, if needed, is still in effect.
