PDI’s Marciano commends organizers of Saipan, Tinian commemorative events

PACIFIC Development Inc. managing director Gordon Marciano said the 75th Anniversary of the Battles of Saipan and Tinian commemorative events would not have been possible without the hard work of the organizing committee.

The committee members include representatives from the Office of the Governor, the CNMI Veterans Affairs Office, American Memorial Park, the Veterans of Foreign War, the American Red Cross-NMI chapter, the Northern Marianas Humanities Council, the Marianas Visitors Authority, the Saipan Mayor’s Office and the Tinian Mayor’s Office.

Marciano said despite the challenges they faced, the organizing committee drew up a plan and executed it.

“Special shout-out to committee chairman Peter Camacho for taking charge of the events,” he added.

Marciano said PDI’s role was to create interest by marketing the 75th anniversary through social media and other outlets.

PDI started bringing veteran tours to the island in March 2019 “through a partnership with the Best Defense Foundation and the Military Historical Tours,” he said.

He added that the promotion also caught the attention of Japanese families who are now visiting memorials on Tinian and Saipan.

Marciano said the committee is now planning for the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Tinian was the departure point of the American B-29s that dropped the atomic bombs on the two Japanese cities.
