DPS chief: Surveillance cameras to be installed at major Saipan traffic intersections, tourist sites

SURVEILLANCE cameras will be installed at major Saipan traffic intersections and tourist sites, Department of Public Safety Commissioner Robert A. Guerrero said.

Docomo Pacific is sponsoring the project with 10 surveillance cameras will be installed on island, Guerrero said.

“I cannot give you the exact details yet, but DPS has gotten the commitment from Docomo is all I can say at the moment,” he said.

Docomo is still repairing its cable lines destroyed by Typhoon Yutu.

Guerrero said as soon as the date for installation the surveillance cameras is set, the information will be sent out to the media.

Surveillance cameras at private establishments have helped solve at least four criminal cases in 2018: the burglary and theft incidents at True Value Hardware and I Love Saipan Pop up Store; a hit and run and attempted theft robbery in Garapan; and an “ice”-related case also in Garapan.
