During the club’s weekly meeting at the Giovanni’s Restaurant of Hyatt Regency Saipan, Borja thanked the club members for their support.

It was the last club meeting presided by Borja who will be succeeded by president-elect Marcia Ayuyu at the installation of new officers on June 22 at the Pacific Islands Club.

Ayuyu said she is looking forward to working with Borja who will be the new director for international services.

In an interview, Borja said the past year was “trying,” but they still managed to accomplish specific goals set by Rotary International.

He said it was a challenging time after Typhoon Yutu devastated the island in October, but Borja said he was thankful that the Rotarians worked together to continue providing services to the community.

“On their own the club members went out and volunteered their time,” he added.

This year’s theme is “Be the Inspiration” and club members set an example of inspiring others in serving the community, Borja said.

He is especially proud of the turnout for the Las Vegas Night fundraising event, saying that he is thankful to the club members, youth members and other volunteers who ensured its success.

Borja said the club will pursue the construction of the accessible playground project at Sugar King Park in Garapan and continue the student-exchange program with Japan.

He said he will work with the new club president to help ensure that they will have guest speakers each week and recruit new members.

“I’m going to be in a supporting role, and I’m here to help,” he added.
