Precinct 2 Rep. Tina Sablan said the congressional commendation was given to Aguon last week at the office of Kilili.

Aguon is an “environmental champion,” Kilili said.

Aguon is a tireless volunteer in cleanup and beautification campaigns around the island.

“Since 2002, Mr. Aguon has taken it upon himself to be a caretaker for some of Saipan’s most beloved and historic places, from Sugar Dock Beach to Marpi Point,” he added.

“On his own time, alone or with friends, he hauls out trash, plants trees, and leaves his adopted sites better than when he found them,” Kilili added.

He said the commendation is an expression of appreciation for Aguon’s many years of service, and of “our hope that many more citizens will be inspired by his example of environmental stewardship.”
