Northern Islands mayor not giving up on Pagan hosting conference

NORTHERN Islands Mayor Vicente Jr. Santos said holding a Guam-NMI conference on Pagan Island is among his goals.

“I am not giving up on it,” he added.

In 2015, then-Mayor Jerome Aldan initiated a plan to hold the Conferencia Dinana Islas Marianas on Pagan.

After Aldan passed away in February 2017, his successor, Santos, said the conference would be held in 2018, but it was postponed.

Santos said they need sufficient funding to prepare the site.

“The transportation cost along is very expensive,” he said, but added that he is determined to host the event.”

Recently, he said his office set up water tank on Pagan.

The Association of Mariana Island Mayors, Vice Mayors and Elected Municipal Council Member also wants to hold a conference on Pagan to discuss the preservation of local culture and environment.

Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang earlier told Santos that the other municipalities on Guam and the CNMI are willing to help organize the event.

Santos said he already informed the mayors in Guam about his determination to host the conference on Pagan.
