Community volunteer, family thank Kilili for inspiration, motivation

COMMUNITY volunteer Max Aguon expressed his appreciation to U.S. Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan for recognizing his years of service to the community.

Aguon’s family said the commendation “encourages and motivates us to continue working for the people.”

“We the children — Brian, Anthony, Maureen, Karen, Jengkie and wife Nida — would like to take this time to thank Congressman Kilili for recognizing our father Marcelino ‘Max’ Aguon for all the hard work that he has done as community volunteer in beautifying our island,” the Aguon family stated.

In June, Kilili presented a U.S. congressional commendation to Max Aguon for his community service since 2002 in the Sugar Dock Beach and Marpi areas.

The congressman said he hopes that Max Aguon’s many years of service will also inspire others to be environmental stewards, too.

In an interview, Max Aguon said Kilili’s recognition “really inspired his friends” to volunteer and help him clean up the island.

He said after the Fourth of July parade, he was assisted by new volunteers Gerry Agulto and Victor Shai in picking up trash, planting coconut trees and trimming the trees along Beach Road.

During the weekend, they also cleaned up the Sugar Dock beach area.

Max Aguon said they prepared the site for the annual feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary on July 7.

For his part, Agulto said helping clean up the island is “fun, enjoyable and sort of like an exercise.”

He said he is committed to help beautify the island “so people and visitors will appreciate our environment.”
