Saipan delegation re-appropriates $21K for mayor’s office

THE Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation on Monday passed a local bill that would re-appropriate $21,790 for the repair of a bucket truck used by the Saipan Mayor’s Office.

All 16 Saipan lawmakers present voted yes to House Local Bill 21-22.

Absent were Sen. Sixto Igisomar, Reps. Tina Sablan, Marco Peter, Ralph Yumul and Richard Lizama.

The bill’s funding source is the $21,790 leftover from last fiscal year’s casino license fee appropriation for the Saipan Mayor’s Office.

Saipan Local Law 20-19 appropriated a total of $460,000 in casino license fees for the mayor’s office so it could purchase a pay loader, a 2,000-gallon tanker, a roller compactor and pay for road maintenance equipment rental charges.

According to the local bill’s author, delegation chairman and House Floor Leader John Paul Sablan, the mayor office’s F-550 bucket truck was damaged during Super Typhoon Yutu and has to be repaired.

H.L.B. 21-22 states that the appropriated money “shall not be reprogrammed for any other use,” and the mayor’s office is required to submit to the delegation chairman “a detailed report showing expenditure of the funds.”

The local bill now goes to the governor.
