Man admits to possessing firearm in gun-free zone

FRANCISCO A. Ada, 56, has been sentenced to one-year imprisonment— all suspended— after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm while in a gun-free zone.

Superior Court Judge Kenneth L. Govendo also placed Ada under supervised probation for six months.

In addition, Ada will pay a fine of $1,000 and a $25 court assessment fee. Moreover, he will perform 100 hours of community work service.

At the hearing, Ada was represented by attorney Joaquin Torres while Assistant Attorney General Chester Hinds appeared for the government.

According to the information filed in court by the AG’s office, Ada was also intoxicated when found in possession of a firearm in a gun-free zone on Aug. 30, 2017 at the Seaside Bar of the Pacific Islands Club.

No other information about the case was available as of press time.
