14 NMI students to attend Boise State University

FOURTEEN students from the CNMI have arrived in Boise, Idaho to attend the fall semester at Boise State University.

Noreen Ada Camacho, human resource compensation coordinator at BSU, the students are with the Million Dollar Scholars program in the CNMI.

In an earlier interview, Gerard Van Gils, the founder of Million Dollar Scholars, said local students are encouraged to go to college or university in the states as a cohort so they can give emotional support to each other while they are away from home.

In Boise the CNMI students were met at the airport by Camacho and Ramon Silva, BSU associate director for Admissions.

Board of Education Chairwoman Janice Tenorio, a BSU alumna, traveled to Boise with the students.

In an email to Variety, Tenorio said she offered words of encouragement to the students as “they embark on one of the most important endeavors of their lives.”

“Hang in there,” she told them. “You will miss home, families and friends but stay strong and focused on your studies and goals.”

She also advised them to “uphold our culture and traditions, and be respectful. Obtaining your education is an asset that no one can take away from you.”
