Each of the children will receive a $25 gift certificate that they can use to buy school supplies at the National Office Supply.

Former Soroptimist International-NMI chapter president Maureen Sebangiol and current president Donna Krum went to the Karidat office to hand over the donation to its executive director, Lauri Ogumoro.

Sebangiol said the donation is one of the annual programs of the NMI chapter which wants to help mothers pay for some of their children’s school expenses.

“It is not probably enough to cover everything they need. But we are hoping it will take some of the stress off from the mothers,” she said.

Ogumoro said Karidat’s women’s shelter has about eight school-age children with their mothers.

She said the donation “will help the moms get their kids ready for school.”
