MVA board asks mayors to provide update on projects

THE Marianas Visitors Authority is asking the mayors of Saipan, Tinian and Rota to provide an update on the projects funded by MVA on their islands, MVA board chair Marian Aldan-Pierce said.

Board vice chair Gloria Cavanagh noted that MVA still has to certify the funds it provided to the municipal governments.

“So unless we certify that the funding is there, they cannot proceed,” she added.

MVA Managing Director Priscilla Iakopo said funding assistance will be released once MVA gets an update about the municipal projects.

The MVA board has extended until Sept. 2020 the term for the remaining $28,000 funding assistance to the Saipan mayor’s office.

MVA has an MOU with the Saipan mayor’s office regarding the implementation of beautification projects on island.

MVA has also allocated $104,000 for Tinian’s observation deck project and $75,000 for Rota’s Mount Sabana 360 Lookout project.

In addition, MVA allocated $45,000 for the non-profit group 500 Sails. Half of the amount has already been released

The MVA board has extended for six months its memorandum of understanding with 500 Sails.
