Humanities Council Executive Director Leo Pangelinan said all students from public and private schools are eligible to submit their group or individual history projects, and are allowed to use different media.

He said oral historian Rlene Steffy will provide support to teachers advising the students on their projects.

“She might be able to show them how to do the interview to find out personal history or a person’s recollection of past events,” Pangelinan said, referring to Steffy.

“We are hoping to set a date for the competition,” he added. The winner/s from the CNMI will get to compete nationally in Maryland. We are still working out the timelines for the CNMI-wide competition,” he added.

The National History Day contest in Maryland will be held on June 14-18, 2020 at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Each year, about 3,000 students and teachers from 50 states, U.S. territories, and other schools in China, Korea, and South Asia participate in the annual event.
