Governor OKs 2 local spending measures

GOVENOR Ralph DLG Torres on Thursday signed into law two local appropriation measures.

House Local Bill 21-5, which is now Saipan Local Law 21-7, appropriates for Saipan $126,670 in bond interest income earned by the Commonwealth Development Authority.

Authored by Rep. Janet U. Maratita, the new law allots the money for the repair of basketball courts and youth centers in Precinct 1; the construction of pavilions and restrooms at San Antonio beach; the repair and maintenance of Dandan Children’s Park and Pakpak Beach Park; and the architecture and engineering design of a sidewalk from Koblerville to Chalan Piao.

The governor also approved H.L.B. 21-25, now S.L.L. 21-8, which re-appropriates all unspent poker license fee and developer infrastructure tax collections from previous appropriations.

Authored by Rep. Joel Camacho, H.L.B. 21-25 appropriates a total of $39,942 for the Paupau Beach Park project.

Still on the governor’s desk are six other bills, including the $148.8 million fiscal year 2020 budget. FY2020 begins on Oct. 1.
