Sablan said the $3 million that House Bill 21-78 would appropriate for PSS was originally the Saipan delegation’s share of the $15.5 million annual casino license fee.

“The delegation is always committed to help PSS,” Sablan added. “So that was the delegation’s recommendation — that PSS gets $3 million,” he said, adding that he and other lawmakers are fully aware of the school system’s needs.

The bill is now with the Senate which is expected to pass it in its next session.

H.B. 21-78 proposes the following allotments:

  • • $1 million for the Rota Legislative Delegation;
  • • $1 million for the Tinian Legislative Delegation;
  • • $3 million for the Saipan and Northern Islands Legislative Delegation;
  • • $1 million for the NMI Settlement Agreement;
  • • $3 million for the Public School System;
  • • $1 million for Northern Marianas College;
  • • $1 million for the Marianas Visitors Authority;
  • • $500,000 for the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.; and,
  • • $4 million for outstanding vendor payments incurred as a result of Super Typhoon Yutu.
