3-year-old drowns in septic tank

A THREE-YEAR-OLD child who was last seen playing outside their home in San Roque went missing Monday afternoon and was later found in a septic tank.

Based on its preliminary investigations, the Department of Public Safety said the child’s family members conducted a search around their home until one of them discovered the child submerged in a septic tank.

DPS spokesman Dre Pangelinan, in a press statement, said the tank was covered with a piece of plywood which “must have fallen in when the child walked over the plywood.”

He said DPS received a 911 call at about 4:49 p.m. on Sept. 16 regarding “a male juvenile who was unresponsive in the village of San Roque.” Officers were then dispatched to the scene.

Pangelinan said the responding officers began conducting cardio pulmonary resuscitation on the child until the arrival of the medics who then transported the boy to the Commonwealth Health Center.

The child was seen by Dr. Edvalson M. Tanuja who pronounced the victim dead at 5:19 p.m. with the cause of death due to drowning.

Pangelinan said the investigation is still ongoing.
