Philippine consular team receives several applications for passport validity extension

THE Philippine consular team has received several applications for passport validity extension, Philippine Consul to Guam Alex O. Vallespin said on Wednesday.

“We are expecting more requests for extension,” he said, but added that the consular team cannot grant an extension unless the passport holder renews his or her passport.

An expired passport cannot be “extended,” he said.

The consular team started its three-day mission on Tuesday at the Sun Palace Hotel.

As for the Sept. 30, 2019 deadline for the processing of CW-1 applications, Vallespin said Honorary Philippine Consul to the CNMI Glicerio “Eli” Arago has a contingency plan for Filipino workers who may have to leave the island.

“Ultimately, this is a U.S. immigration issue,” Vallespin said, but added: “We should be hopeful because there is still a need for workers.”

So far, Vallespin said, the consular team has been processing an average of 140 passport renewals every day.

On Tuesday, the team received three reports of birth and two reports of marriages, and administered the oath to two individuals who hold dual citizenship.

The other members of the consular team are Fritz Geralo A. Fernandez, Ferdinand E. Villamor, Maria Liza A. Mamarin, and Juliet S. Simbul.

Consul Vallespin said he and his team are thankful to the volunteers from the Filipino community led by Annamae Adaza. These include Mel Santos, Lucy Buensalido, Norma Sotto, Shelfa Gaviola, and Ann Mercado.

Vallespin said the next consular outreach will be held in November on Saipan and Rota. More details will be announced soon.
