‘Art of the Heart’ recital on Saturday

EIGHTY dancers and singers will perform at Saipan Music and Dance Studio’s “Art of the Heart” recital in the Taga Hall of Saipan World Resort on Saturday.

SMADS president Ester Sablan said they will be the first group to use the Taga Hall after it was shut down for almost a year. The hotel was badly damaged by Typhoon Yutu when it hit Saipan on Oct. 24-25, 2018. As a result, all the scheduled functions at the hotel were cancelled, including SMADS’ annual recital.

Sablan said the performances in this year’s recital will include hip hop, ballet, ballroom and others.

“The [SMADS] students will showcase different dances,” she added.

Recently, SMADS studio opened its door to those who want to learn ballet. “It will be the first time to have ballet performers in our recital,” Sablan said.

The recital also aims to raise funds to support SMADS dancers who will be competing in the hip hop international championship in Phoenix, Arizona next year.

“Our target is to bring 25 dancers who will represent the CNMI in the international competition,” Sablan said.

Recital tickets are available at SMADS studio in Garapan. The ticket price is $10 for regular and $20 for VIP.
