Club 200 rescheduled for Nov.9

DUE to the impact of Typhoon Hagibis on Saipan, the American Red Cross-NMI chapter on Wednesday announced that its fundraising event, Club 200, which was scheduled for Oct. 12, will be held on Nov. 9 instead.

The NMI chapter has been hosting Club 200 for 30 years now.

In postponing this year’s event, NMI chapter executive director John Hirsh said they need to prioritize giving service to people who were affected by the typhoon.

He said that the damage caused by Super Typhoon Hagibis was relatively “small,” but based on their initial assessment, over 100 families living in tents and several individuals in shelters were affected by the typhoon.

There was also flooding in low-lying areas.

On Wednesday morning, Hirsh said, Red Cross volunteers distributed tarps and cleaning supplies to people affected by the typhoon.

Hagibis’ closest point of approach occurred on early Tuesday morning when it was 52 miles north of Saipan and 10 miles south of Anatahan with gusts at 82 miles per hour, according to CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
