Micronesia Challenge seeks interns

THE Micronesia Challenge is now accepting applications for an internship with its Young Champion Program for 2019-2020.

The internship aims to “build the next generation of conservation leaders in Micronesia.”

The selected interns will:

  • • Develop a work plan with the host agency.
  • • Participate in outreach and awareness to promote the goals and gain local support and participation for the Micronesia Challenge and the Protected Areas Network.
  • • Participate in regular, informal local and regional-level consultations and projects to help gain consensus on the implementation of the Micronesia Challenge
  • • Participate in a uniquely designated professional development program to advance the intern’s conservation and leadership skills.
  • • Document and share lessons learned.

The chosen interns from each of the five island jurisdictions of Micronesia will receive up to $6,000. These jurisdictions are the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, the Marshall Islands, Guam and the CNMI.

Applicants must be, among other things, currently enrolled in a college/university and/or a recent college graduate, and is between the ages of 17 and 25.

The Micronesia Challenge is a commitment of the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, the Marshall Islands, Guam, and the CNMI to effectively conserve at least 30 percent of their near-shore marine resources and preserve 20 percent of their terrestrial resources by 2020.
