NMTI, in partnership with Herman’s Modern Bakery, to offer pastry course

THE Northern Marianas Technical Institute will soon offer a pastry course after its board on Thursday approved a memorandum of agreement with Herman’s Modern Bakery.

Under the MOA, Herman’s Modern Bakery will allow NMTI’s pastry students to use the bakery’s facility.

NMTI board chairman John Gonzales said the island’s hotels, restaurants, and bakeries need new trained and certified bakers.

During the board meeting, NMTI chief executive officer Agnes McPhetres said the implementation of the MOA was held back because of nonavailability of liability insurance for the students.

“We looked for other companies and we’re now working with Moylan’s,” she added.

McPhetres said NMTI has more than 300 students who should be covered by insurance.

Gonzales noted that NMTI students have also trained at the Hyatt and Fiesta Resort.

NMTI, he added, is also establishing partnerships with other private businesses including Kensington, Kanoa Resort, and other hotels in the next few months.
